Berselli, Girolamo (fl. end of the 16th century).
Lodi del Porco, Opera Piaceuole Et Ridicolosa. Nella quale à pieno si descriue la Perfezzione, la bontà, l’eccellenza, l’industria, la magnanimità, la valorosità, e la fierezza del Porco.... Florence, 1592.
8° (140x93 mm). Collation: A4. leaves. Roman type. Title within an ornamental woodcut border. Modern half-morocco, marbled covers. A fine copy.
The only known copy of this edition – and possibly the first appearance in print – of this ludic poem in praise of pork attributed to Berselli. Paleari Henssler lists an earlier edition, which may have been printed by Bonardi in Bologna in 1590 (Bibliografia latino-italiana di gastronomia, Milano 1984, p. 87), but no copy has been traced. The Lodi del porco was then reprinted in Perugia by the heirs of Andrea Bresciano no earlier than 1594, and only one copy of this publication is preserved today in the Biblioteca dell'Accademia Petrarca, Arezzo.
